I sing, teach and write like it matters…because it does

Hello and welcome to my website!  I am a classical soprano, voice teacher and author/blogger who is available to sing for your concert or event or to teach you about singing in private lessons, lectures or workshops.  My hope is to make the world a better paradise through singing.  I know it sounds a bit silly but I truly believe that the world would be so much better if we all just sang a little more and listened to great singers a little more.

Performing Artist:  I perform opera roles like Baby Doe and Micaela, oratorio roles like Saint-Saens’ Christmas Oratorio or Brahm’s Requiem and cabaret/art song recitals. I’m a member of a really fun piano/soprano duo called Kristof & Kane. You can find our CD of classical songs and arias called A Moment of Joy at www.cdbaby.com, amazon.com and on i-tunes and information about our new classical cabaret show: Duel Duet at www.KristofandKane.com.  I’m also a member of a lovely trio called SiLK who performs for special occasions like weddings and private parties.  Please visit our site at www.silkmusic.us.  For information about engaging me for an event, please email me at susan@smkane.com.

Teaching Artist:  I’m also a professor of voice at a four-year university but don’t hold that against me!  I truly love teaching voice just as much as I love singing.  I’ve been teaching voice at the college and professional levels for 19 years!  Oh my, how time flies!  Private lessons alone seemed a bit limited for me so I decided to also offer workshops and workshops led to books.  Besides my duties as opera director and voice teacher at Cal State LA, I also teach private voice lessons, give workshops and lectures.

Writing Artist: My BLOG/VLOG is titled:  Sensational Singing because singing is about sensations.  To hone the powerful sensations required to make beautiful vocal tones is what I do and what I teach.  Since singing affects so many areas of life and is such a powerful act, my BLOG/VLOG is about how music, especially vocal music touches people and makes the world a better paradise.

My current workshop is meant to help recent graduates with degrees in vocal performance bridge the gap between the university and their performing careers.  This workshop inspired a book by the same title:  Bridging the Gap Between the University and the Stage:  A Guide for the 21st Century Classical Singer.  We’ve done two Bridging the Gap workshops and I suspect we’ll do another this summer.  Check back, or better yet, make a request.  I look forward to hearing from you.  Post a comment here or simply email me at susan@smkane.com.

I got your contact info from the Cal State LA website. I am program chair for the Rotary Club of San Marino. We meet Thursdays for lunch, at the Community Church. I am in hopes that Cal State LA has a barbershop quartet (the older melodies, in four part harmony; patriotic music too) for our special July 3 meeting. School may be out…but if we schedule this now, hopefully those kids could make this program opportunity happen. Maybe you’re not the professor for this type of music…but could pass my request onto the person that would? We could probably pay a stipend.
