Anne Douglas Center Partnership

The Anne Douglas Center for Women is located within the LA Mission for the Homeless on skid row in Los Angeles. The center provides a year-long program that rehabilitates select women and prepares them for a job and a home. Our voice students have worked extensively with Chaplain Antoinette Burwell to provide musical experiences for both her students at the ADC and mine at Cal State LA based in HEALING – CONFIDENCE – and JOY.  Below are some photos of our work. There is a powerpoint presentation offered to the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities in Denver, CO, October 11, 2017. If you are interested, please email me at susan@smkane.com and I’ll send it to you.

The following is a performance our students did for the culminating event: the opening of the rooftop garden, meditation, and event space overlooking beautiful downtown LA’s skyline. Student Jenny Tran arranged Philip Phillip’s song “Home” and dedicated it to the Anne Douglas Center and its students and staff.
